Def Nettle is the Post-Funk/Alt-Punk band fronted by prolific musician Glen Brady. Musically he combines uptempo Punk/Post-Punk rhythms and classic Emo soundscapes with danceable beats and hard hitting tongue in cheek visions of contemporary life. He is joined live & in-studio by a plethora of established artists & musicians including renowned Irish drummer, Jay Oglesby (Liquid Wheel, Delorentos). Guitarists, Dan Donnelly (The Levellers) Graeme Slattery (The Devlins, A Boy in Cords), Ronnie Carroll (Grouse), Bassist, Ely Siegel & Vocalist Lisa Doyle-Taafe.
Brady is a Dubliner with a twist of childhood spent in New York and has spent much of his life in Berlin & San Francisco working at the top of his field in in every aspect of music production & performance. He has session musician credits with the likes of R.E.M., has spent 5 years as an engineer with the California State Symphony and has toured as a member of DARK with Andy Rourke ( The Smiths) and the late Dolores O’Riordan as well as having mixed their album, Science Agrees.
Def Nettle released their first three singles in 2022. The most recent single ‘Architecture’ spent 8 weeks at #2 on German Independent Dance chart. ’The Pills’ & ‘War Machine’ featuring Andy Rourke of The Smiths on Bass guitar received extensive plays on radio around Ireland and UK and have had considerable press coverage in The Sunday Independent, The Sunday Business Post, Hot Press, The Golden Plec as well as being featured on countless UK based Indie blogs like Rough UK, Flex Magazine & Turtle Tempo.
The band recently appeared live on 2 episodes of Virgin Media One’s Fanning Live @ Whelan’s and have recently done live recordings for RTE 2XM’s Sessions form Oblivion which are due to air in March 2023.
The Irish Times recently included Def Nettle in the 20 ‘Bands to Watch’ in 2023.
